W&A CONSULAR WORLD GIVINGS
#BlueAtSource for Next 2 Years
In the last two impactful years with our #GreenAtSource initiative, W&A Consular World proudly supported and funded over 20 environmental projects across 18 countries with diverse partners, delivering in the planting of more than 46,000+ trees in not-for-profit application.
Now, we’re shifting our focus towards a vital resource: #water. #BelieveInBaku As we transition from green to blue, our mission for the next two years is to champion clean water projects in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 6 (UN SDG 6). We believe in taking decisive action now, not waiting until 2030 or 2050, to address the urgent need for clean and accessible water for all.

At COP28, we call for a Global Afforestation Standard
But what exactly is #GreenAtSource and why does it matter?
Planting trees is one of the most effective and practical solutions to tackle climate change. Trees are not only the lungs of our planet, but they are also vital in the ecological balance that sustains life on Earth. They clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. Moreover, forests offer ingredients for medicines, provide livelihoods to billions of people, and play a spiritual role in many cultures.
The potential of trees in combatting climate change is unparalleled. They are nature’s own carbon capture and storage devices. During photosynthesis, trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it in their trunks, branches, and leaves. As forests grow, they continue to absorb carbon dioxide, effectively acting as a carbon sink.
The vision of #GreenAtSource goes beyond just planting trees. It aims to set a precedent for future international conferences and events by striving to create a carbon-neutral summit, hence establishing a legacy of environmental responsibility. This is a call to action to create an unprecedented legacy for the UAE and the world.
Now, let’s delve into the nitty-gritty of the #GreenAtSource initiative.
The Multiplying Effect – Analyses:
Let’s put things into perspective with a brief analysis. Assuming one tree can absorb about 22kg of CO2 per year, planting 1 million trees could potentially absorb around 22,000 metric tons of CO2 annually. This is equivalent to offsetting the yearly emissions from approximately 4,800 cars.
Imagine the global impact if every major airline, oil company, bank, and individuals around the world, started taking these steps. We’re talking about billions of trees planted, and millions of metric tons of CO2 offset every year. This could significantly slow down the effects of climate change and possibly reverse some of its damage.
For instance, #GreenAtSource has reached out to 28 airlines, urging them to plant 28 trees for each flight they operate. Similarly, 28 oil companies have been approached with the proposition to plant 28 trees for every 1000 barrels of oil. Likewise, 28 banks have been contacted to plant 28 trees for every 100 new accounts opened. These numbers might seem small initially, but when scaled, they have the potential to create a monumental positive impact.
Moreover, W&A Consular World® supports and encourages individual-level actions. The #28TreesForCOP28 is an exemplary initiative in this regard, allowing individuals to contribute to the planting of 28 trees each, and collectively making a significant difference.
This initiative is not just an environmental effort; it’s an economic one as well. By planting trees, we are also investing in our future economies. Trees provide raw materials for industries such as construction, pulp and paper, medicinal, and even food industries. A sustainable approach to afforestation ensures a sustainable supply of raw materials for these industries, hence boosting the economy.
Furthermore, trees have an innate ability to connect people. They often hold cultural and social values within communities. For example, the Banyan tree is considered sacred and holds social importance in several Indian communities. The olive trees in the Mediterranean are a symbol of peace and prosperity. By planting trees, we are also preserving cultures, traditions, and identities.
A Call for Global Afforestation Standard:
The cumulative potential of afforestation on a global scale is monumental. Therefore, it is imperative to establish a Global Afforestation Standard. This standard would serve as a guideline and provide a framework for companies, universities, and organizations to align their afforestation efforts.
Such a standard would ensure not just the quantity, but the quality of afforestation efforts. It would also bring uniformity to the efforts being made across different sectors and regions, ensuring that every tree planted contributes effectively to the fight against climate change.
The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has said, “We are running out of time to avoid a climate catastrophe. We need rapid and deep cuts in carbon emissions.” His words should not just be a warning, but a rallying cry for action. #GreenAtSource is a response to this call for action.
It’s time for a global standard. It’s time for businesses, institutions, and individuals to take collective action. The #GreenAtSource initiative by W&A Consular World® represents a beacon of hope and an opportunity to make a lasting impact.
Let us unite in creating a green canopy of hope, progress, and resilience. Our actions today will echo through generations, and the trees we plant will testify to our unwavering commitment to our planet.
This is not just about planting trees; this is about taking responsibility for our planet. This is about creating a legacy for future generations. This is about ensuring that our children, and their children, have a planet they can call home.
